"Mini-stories" posted by ~Ray

Keeping a gratitude journal is supposed to change magnitude happiness. I sight something to be grateful for every day which is harder than it sounds. I've been doing this for a while and I have to tell you. I think it's working. DancingI missed the first class in my series of eight lessons but I took the back up categorise and was just fine. I've taken quite a few swing dance classes with the same instructors and I know a lot of the material. I was hoping that I'd be familiar with the material from first class and I was. I was relaxed and easy. I practiced my "grimace at everyone" technique and everyone was very friendly. It's easy and it works. The male-to-female ratio was ameliorate but the nerd quotient was high. Very high. I had a good time but left early. I was still tired from staying home egest most of the previous week. I'm looking forward to the next lesson. No-showSue me. I skipped ushering. There's only so much a be can do. Mega-fanOn Thursday. I went to my volunteer gig (reading to kids) after the back up day of my conference. I had to plan the evening's activities which I found a bit overwhelming in conception. However the execution went rather well. We had fewer kids than measure measure so fewer disruptions. We knew all the kids from last time which meant everyone was more comfortable. The kids liked the books and the activity. I learned: I can plan an arts and crafts activity. My main principle: keep it simple stupid. It worked. After the volunteering. I hightailed it to Arlington to watch football with Pele and her boyfriend. No offense. Pele but I experience why the BF doesn't have people over more often—that displace is a eat! However. I didn't care because the tv was HUGE and the couch was comfortable. Pele even ordered dinner for me! And the BF picked it up! He can keep that place as messy as he likes and it won't bother me one bit. Finally finally the Redskins won. It was a relief. Pele told the BF that I'm a mega fan. He is a desire time fan himself. I demurred and saying that following a team faithfully for one season does not make a mega fan. (Though I actually watched quite a few games measure year.) He was amused. Me too. No saleOn Friday. I was too lazy to go to the blogger happy hour—or was I too drunk? Probably both. I was also invited to a cocktail celebrate at a neighbor's house. This was in fact a "sales" party at TR's house organized by his wife. For the first move of the evening. TR was out with the kids and we ladies ate and drank and then listened to a sales fling for high-end skin care products. I'm sure the products were all excellent but I just couldn't deal with it (i e. buy anything). When TR eventually joined us then retired to the kitchen to wash dishes. I followed him. We talked about work and football. A lot about football. TR asked my opinion about football. Bizarre. Aside: I've been thinking a lot about the meaning of sport and why so many of us are attached to watching. First. I think it signals an ability to identify with something outside of oneself and the desire to be move of something larger than oneself. It's foolish sure but deeply meaningful. back up it is about the best obtain of small communicate ever! Yay sports!Humorous epilogue: anticipate who spent $100 on high end skin compassionate products at L'Occitane en Provence on Monday? (Shampoo conditioner toner body wash and a present for Mom.) My usual obtain for such products (with the exception of the present) is the drug hold on and very occasionally the hair salon. I am a paradox. Par-tayOn Saturday. I ended up with two celebrate invites. One to the "celebrate of mystery" and another from a work acquaintance. I spent most of the day hanging around the house slowly cleaning knitting and watching dvds. I picked up my Seattle friend. Amanda and her fiancé up from the airport around 7pm and took them home. We hung out for a while but as planned. I left for my parties around 9pm. (My exchange with Amanda about this went something like this: Me: I feel bad taking you home and then just leaving you there. Amanda: What you don't believe us alone at your place?Me: No! I feel like a bad host. Amanda: Don't be silly.)I drove to Arlington to the work-acquaintance celebrate. I was flying solo but that was fine since I knew people where I was going. Upon arrival. I was greeted with a celebrate of five (including me). Work friends. Nina. Danielle and Deirdre and the entertain. Bill were the only other guests. I can't explain why but I stayed there for the rest of the evening. I get along great with Bill come up with Danielle and so-so with Nina and Deirdre. Yet. Nina is my actual friend from this group. I can inform but it's tiresome. I had a sufficiently entertaining measure. Then I went home. BrunchyOn Sunday morning. I took Amanda and her fiancé to Arlington (popular displace!) to cater Amanda's brother for eat. I joined them and it was fun. It's been years since I've seen Amanda's brother and I got to meet his kids too. After eat and a little shopping we parted ways. I let Amanda borrow the car for a couple days since she is also visiting friends in Baltimore and Annapolis. She'll come back to my place tonight—we're going to dinner. Hope she's enjoying driving the camper. Heh. Wrap-upThis week is work too. measure night. I went to a staged-reading of my playwright friend's newest play. Great just as expected. Tonight. Amanda is staying with me. Tomorrow. I bake brownies. Thursday. I will probably drop a happy hour. Friday is our office celebrate at TR's displace which means a bunco day. Saturday. I drive to PA for a memorial service. Sunday. I drive home. Blah. I'm tired already. Last week as I mentioned. I sat in a conference for two days. I found it interesting and useful. About halfway through the second day though. I started to weaken. I started doodling and writing. I put my mind to an idea for a novel. Somehow the accent of a power point presentation is conducive to creativity. Perhaps it's because it doesn't insistently demand my attention like television. What's great is that I came up with what might be a reasonable structure for a novel I would enjoy writing. It will be heavily (mostly) autobiographical but it will be presented as fiction. That way I can fill in where I can't remember the actual events and dialog and I can drop/feature/create characters as needed. Plus. I have a gimmick. I've already written some unknown proportion of the novel via the blog though the blog will not be move of the novel. The real question is: when am I going to write this novel? And. I suppose do I really be to create verbally this novel? It used to be that when I got home. I set myself up with the computer and typed away while I watched tv. Now. I combine knitting with my tv watching and do very little writing at home or on the weekends. The knitting is deeply satisfying. The process is pleasurable and having something to show for it is awesome. Have I traded the blog hobby for a knitting hobby? Perhaps. But come up. I'd desire to evaluate that I now undergo two awesome hobbies. Before. I could count reading and movies as hobbies but they don't require the same be of input and don't prove in the same level of satisfaction. (I guess you could classify my recreational sports activities as hobbies too but they have a vastly different purpose.)It's all a challenge of priorities. If the novel is the highest priority then less time should be devoted to tv and knitting. I comfort have some thinking to do about this. Of course work is still phenomenally decrease which means if I were a tiny bit more efficient a great deal of writing could be done at the office. It's possible that this is exactly how I wrote my dissertation. Don't ingeminate me. (Dissertating also included many weekends and late nights at the office. It included very little measure working from home.)Off to the next event!Grateful for: opportunities and inspiration.

From the study: They found that if people have the ability to bring home the bacon from home and to compress work weeks they are more likely to make healthier lifestyle choices to exercise more and to sleep better. “Perhaps it gives people the measure to fit in healthier lifestyle into their everyday regimen or maybe it just enables populate to better manage their time,” Professor Joseph G. "How to Endear Yourself to Neighbors, Part III" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 01:33:51

There are things I expected from working at home– missing out on the comradery of an office, no more free baked goods. BUT the ability to sing aloud to any music at any time.  Today something unexpected occured while I worked at home.  I was on a business call with my laid back boss.  I decided to enjoy the weather and sit out on my lie stoop.  In the middle of the call my dwell emerged out of his house wearing nothing but a towel around his waist. Ed just froze in the middle of his driveway.  It was a complete deer in headlights moment!  I’m sure the measure thing he expected in the middle of a work day was a witness right across the street.  It certainly was the thing I expected while discussing cut weights and bar codes! "A Gift" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-25 18:16:37

I had been selling vintage children's books since October of 2005 when I joined an eBay telecommunicate list called. This is an amazing eBay support group full of incredibly knowledgeable sellers. I have learned so much from this list on what to sell and definitely what not to sell. I was heavily influenced by the moderator of the assort. Julie Anna with her children's book selling experiences. She would find a schedule from the 70's at a Friends of the Library book sale for.50 cents and turn around and sell it anywhere from $30-$300.00. I decided that I wanted to do this as come up. I then bought a monthly subscription to receive in my in-box once a month. I also bought an ebook from her ebay hold on about how to sell children's books. Within two weeks I was out thrifting and I found a valuable title that I turned around and sold for $35.00. This was huge to me at the time. I was a bookworm from an early age. My childhood memories consisted me sitting in our willow channelise reading books from begin until dusk. I had over 1000 books when I was a teenager and bookshelves lined one wall of my bedroom. When I couldn't get to sleep. I would count my books to see how many I had. Some people count sheep. I count books. I even had them in alphabetic request by publisher. I wasted quite a few years in my early 20's trying to figure out what I "wanted to be". I should have just looked back and realized I had the makings of a bookseller all along. After my first valuable schedule sold my alter toward selling valuable children's books began. A year ago I was invited into a very small and close-knit book sellersemail list by my friend who I met on the eBay enumerate mentioned above. Some of the booksellers were like me just starting out as a bookseller. Together many of us went on this path together with buying gadgets to back up our book scouting become more profitable. We bought fun things like a shipping label printer which saves me hours of bring home the bacon a month. But the most important thing is that we have become close friends. Someone said to me the other day that working from home must be very lonely. I had to forbid and think for a moment because I never felt that I worked alone. Anytime of the day (especially since many are from the East glide as well) I can email a question about books or even an off topic subject and get replies from my bookselling friends. I've met two of them and hope to meet more. It is touching to evaluate how change state online friends can be. Two days ago I received a surprise from one of them. Her name is and she sent some pieces from my favorite dish set in the world. MIKASA! She was sweet enough to displace me a sugar lid in case I ever come across a dulcify bowl that is missing one. These match my recently from eBay perfectly even the alter is exact. Karin was concerned about the dreaded avocado color but avocado color and I undergo a comfortable relationship. I actually desire the alter. Karin came across them in a thrift hold on and couldn't pass them up knowing I was an obsessive Mikasa collector. convey you so much Karin. Although leaving the home organizing business and all my other small businesses I started was hard to do it was the alter choice for me. I am a person with many passions and I usually go that passion where it takes me. This pass my passions were outdoor furniture and suitcases. Dh laughed each measure I brought another suitcase through the lie door. I had the song running through my mind "My bags are packed. I'm create from raw material to go. I'm waiting here outside your door." (from ) Or he cringed when I brought another gliding patio furniture through the gate. Having so much passion and arouse in everything makes it really hard to cerebrate. I admire all of you with a tidy craft dwell/studio where you act amazing handbags art jewelry and clothing. My craft room is cluttered and full of every imaginable craft on the planet. But because I want to do them all. I have not perfected any of them and at the moment they sit unused. When I look at my daughter. I see so much of myself in her. She thrives on "feeling" rather than necessarily doing if that makes any sense. She does what gives her feelings of happiness. She always wants more and flutters from one interest to the next. Right now she is very much into American Girl dolls. I found her two this summer at yard sales. It isn't good enough for her she wants another one. Maybe this is common for children in general but I feel that she and I are very alike. Selling books keeps me grounded I think. Although I still get ideas of starting another business from measure to time. My recent idea was helping people find their passions and make them their reality. I think so many people want to do things in their life but are stuck behind the thought that they can't do them. But I think I should just stick to books. Books are good dependable and people always will want them. I love being a bookseller. I love just having a title to go with my name. It was really hard in my 20's wandering around aimlessly not knowing what I wanted to do while watching friends and acquaintances earn degrees and experience in their hearts what they wanted to bring home the bacon. I wanted to be like them but you can't compel yourself to be when you don't experience what you be to do. I worked three years at the cemetery wishing every day I could be a housewife. How's that for a goal? Well my wish did go adjust and being a housewife gave me the option to really sight my hearts wish change surface if it was a bumpy road of businesses desire Pampered Chef. Creative Memories. Small Business Consultant. Jewelry making. domiciliate Organizer and finally a schedule Seller. For now the passion to sell books is still very strong and I have goals to sell rarer books and hopefully dive into valuable 1st editions. I would love to hold a write of a first edition Steinbeck in my hands. That would make my year. And who knows. I may just sight one in the bottom of a cast aside box at a yard sale for.25 cents. Great post and I too can relate on thriving on feeling rather than doing some things. I love to be involoved in many things sometimes all at once but need that ONE thing to keep me grounded and focussed. I've also learned to let go of things that I just don't undergo time to act in advance of those that really alter me conclude accomplished if that makes sense. (IE. I now I never will do well knitting or crocheting so rather than forbid myself. I'll enjoy others bring home the bacon and let them create from raw material for me.. LOL). Thanks for posting on my "Birthday" post. I too hope one day we can thrift together. I'd love to meet several of my west coast blog friends--and especially you one of my first blogging friends :) Fabulous post - I experience just what you are saying about being a bookseller. I sell books mainly on Amazon co uk although some displace over onto ebay. I like it. I've been doing it pretty much constantly for the past six years and I'm still not tired of it. I think it helps if you really apply books yourself as you so obviously do and so do I. Plus there are some excellent profits to be made and I love that side of being a bookseller too.
